Recycling Plastic is Fantastic!

This November ends  WRAP’s Recycle Now campaign called ‘Recycle Plastic – Fantastic!’. The aim of the campaign was to encourage recycling more plastic packaging, by supporting local authorities, brands and retailers in instructing consumers on the variety of plastic items which can be recycled. We spotted the posters from the campaign displayed on the lamp posts along the main streets in Hackney!

Marcus Gover, Director at WRAP, said “Using the communication materials is a real opportunity to deliver some targeted communications campaigns around a material stream we know causes confusion with consumers. We want people to recycle plastic as it’s a fantastic useable resource. We’re asking partners to get involved by downloading the new materials and use them in their own plastic recycling campaigns. The materials have been created to provide clarification, dispel myths and help consumers get a better understanding of what they should be recycling.”

Loop strongly supports this campaign and wants to encourage everyone to commit to recycling ALL YOUR PLASTICS: plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays!

WRAP’s plastic recycling campaign is part of a long term project focusing on specific dry recycling materials per quarter. The next quarters will be paper & card running December 2015 – February 2016 and metal & glass running March – May 2016.

One very creative way of reusing plastic was reported by BBC this year:

Mbongeni Buthelezi, an artist from South Africa, combined his art and his love for recycling by collecting plastic bags from the streets around his Johannesburg studio and melting them to create a unique kind of art which he calls “plastic fantastic”.

You can check the facinating video of how Buthelezi creates his paintings here.
